It's not just proper tire inflation, kids.

The accompanying map depicts "The No Zone." This is the region surrounding the United States where Democrats have blocked oil exploration for decades.Democrats oppose drilling in deepwater, even though Hurricanes Katrina and Rita proved that modern offshore drilling platforms pose virtually no pollution risk. Democrats oppose exploration in a tiny, postage-stamp sized region of Alaska. As for new refineries or nuclear energy, well, the Democrats oppose those, too. The net result of Democratic behavior is that America will become increasingly dependent on foreign oil. While alternative energy sources remain an admirable goal, they are decades away from becoming serious alternatives to oil.
...Biden is one of the tort bar's staunchest allies in Congress, blocking reform at every opportunity while trying to defeat conservative judicial nominees. His quid pro quo with SimmonsCooper in Delaware helps explain why asbestos suits continue to weigh down the courts even after tens of thousands of cases have been shown to be invented. The "change" lawyers will believe in if Mr. Biden makes it to the White House is cold, hard cash...
Among the groups denouncing the [Bush] proposal [to strengthen oversight of Fannie and Freddie] today were ...Congressional Democrats who fear that tighter regulation of the companies could sharply reduce their commitment to financing low-income and affordable housing.
”These two entities — Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac — are not facing any kind of financial crisis,” said Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts, the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee. ”The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.” ...Representative Melvin L. Watt, Democrat of North Carolina, agreed.
In case you thought there was some limit to how blatantly Democrats would betray their own country, this was passed out at the pro–illegal immigration rally in Dallas yesterday......The less than subtle suggestion that Texas belongs to Mexico is sure to win hearts among the MEChA set, which holds that the Southwest should be wrested away from the Gringo through massive immigration followed by ethnic cleansing.
Our politicians are lucky that most Americans are too busy to follow their antics, because voters would surely howl over Nancy Pelosi's trade priorities this week... the same "fair trade" crowd that bemoans the U.S. trade deficit wants to have only one-way free trade with Latin America -- free for them to sell to us, but not for us to sell to them. Has anyone told the UAW about all those Caterpillar machinery exports to Colombia that Democrats are blocking?
[Obama's Global Poverty Act bill] efers directly to a United Nations declaration called the Millenium Development Goal, which calls "for a 'redistribution (of) wealth and land,' cancellation of 'the debts of developing countries' and 'a fair distribution of the earth's resources.'"It effects a "tax on the rental value of land and natural resources," a "royalty on worldwide fossil energy production - oil, natural gas, coal," "fees for the commercial use of the oceans, fees for airplane use of the skies, fees for use of the electromagnetic spectrum, fees on foreign exchange transactions, and a tax on the carbon content of fuels."
With the introduction of a new "Intelligence Authorization bill", Democrats intend to divert funds from national security intelligence efforts in order to consider "the effects that climate change has on national security." In other words, Democrats view global warming as a threat that justifies stripping funds away from fighting terrorism.
In 1977 President Jimmy Carter signed the Community Redevelopment Act (or CRA) into law. As a result of "national grassroots pressure for affordable housing", it forced banks to underwrite risky mortgage loans in order to meet the needs of "the entire community."
In 1995 the Clinton administration strengthened the regulations of the Community Redevelopment Act. The CRA enabled consumers to secure mortgages with "no verification of income or assets; little consideration of the applicant's ability to make payments; [and] no down payment."
As the mortgage industry grew, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac (government-sponsored entities, or GSEs) became a kind of "jobs program for out-of-work Democrats".
Clinton administration friends and staffers managed the GSEs including Franklin Raines, Jim Johnson, Jamie Gorelick and Rahm Emmanual. This small group of executives paid themselves nearly $200 million in only six years' time.
The Democratic executives kept journalists and Republicans at bay by spending "close to $150 million on lobbying" in ten years.
Chris Dodd (head of the Senate Banking Committee), Barack Obama and John Kerry were the top three recipients of Fannie's money, together collecting around $360,000.
Over this same time-frame during President Clinton's tenure, the U.S. suffered through a seemingly endless series of terrorist attacks that were treated as "law enforcement" issues.
The attack on the USS Cole was the eighth consecutive unanswered terrorist attack on American interests during the Clinton administration.
The attacks culminated in 9/11, the worst terrorist attack in history. It smashed a United States blinded by the Clinton administration's artificially erected "wall" between the military and intelligence communities.
After the 1996 election, the Clinton administration also came under fire for accepting campaign donations from operatives of the People's Republic of China.
Persons who appeared to be agents of the Chinese government funneled contributions to the Democratic National Committee in direct violation of US election law.
The resulting investigation was hampered significantly because nearly 100 witnesses either refused to be questioned, pled the Fifth Amendment against self incrimination, or left the country altogether. Even so, 22 people were convicted for fraud or for funneling Asian funds into the U.S. elections.
Operative Johnny Chung, allegedly using money from the Chinese army, gave more than $500,000 to Democrats at the same time Clinton was approving a controversial transfer of satellite launch technology to China.
Let's not forget Clinton's 1994 veto of a bill that would have opened up a small segment of Alaska's ANWR region to oil exploration. At the time, Sen. Chuck Schumer said, "If we started drilling in ANWR today we wouldn't have a drop of oil for ten years." That was fourteen years ago.
Say, that's quite a legacy. But can America really afford another Clinton or Carter presidency?
McCain-Palin 2008.

Democrats have blocked the development of new sources of petroleum.
Democrats have blocked drilling in ANWR.
Democrats have blocked drilling off the coast of Florida.
Democrats have blocked drilling off of the east coast.
Democrats have blocked drilling off of the west coast.
Democrats have blocked drilling off the Alaskan coast.
Democrats have blocked building oil refineries.
Democrats have blocked clean nuclear energy production.
Democrats have blocked clean coal production.

Hurricane Ike threatens our largest oil refineries...
Gas prices hit all-time highs...
...and the Democrat-controlled Congress continues to prohibit drilling for energy around 93% of the U.S. In fact, they even prohibit exploration!
It's nothing new. In 1994 Democrat Bill Clinton vetoed exploration in Alaska
In 2008 Democrat Nancy Pelosi claimed that drilling for oil is a "hoax".
And in July of this year Democrat Ken Salazar refused to consider drilling even if gas hit $10 a gallon!
Ten dollar gas? Vote for Energy. Vote McCain-Palin.Look at the Dems' "No Zones" and realize that if drilling and refinery sites were spread out, a hurricane in the Gulf would not have such a dire effect on our economy and on your pocketbook.
Common sense folks! If your banked cash exceeds the FDIC insurance limits, you use more than one bank. Time we create more than ONE ENERGY BANK for this country....
I don't know what Matt Yglesias has against cars, but they seem to be a major impediment to creating his nanny state utopia:As you've probably noticed, there's just about nowhere in the United States where you're allowed to drive faster than 80 miles per hour. And yet cars can drive much faster than this.
And of course the reason you're not allowed to go super-fast is that it isn't safe. A large proportion of car accidents are related to people driving too quickly. Thus, via Ezra Klein comes Kent Sepkowitz's suggestion that we design cars so as to make it impossible for them to drive over, say, 75 miles per hour. This seems reasonably sensible to me.
This seems reasonably sensible to no one, once you've thought about it for more than a few seconds. If you're going to allow cars to drive at 60-70 miles an hour, you probably need to allow for the fact that there are innumerable situations where safety dictates you depend on reserve power to drive faster than the prevailing speed...
Matt Yglesias (no relation to Julio, I presume) is full of crap. I drive a fast car. Car and Driver says it tops out at about 155 MPH. However, I never drive it over
In Ohio, Democrat Victoria Wulsin has been trying to unseat Rep. Jean Schmidt since, oh, around the time of the French Revolution."Vic Wulsin is an astonishing hypocrite... She attacks Jean Schmidt for voting for Ohio's budget almost seven years ago while hoping people forget Vic proposed a significant tax increase less than two years ago."
The reference is to a television interview Wulsin did in 2006 on WLWT during which she said, "One more thing about gas prices... I believe we need some sort of progressive tax on gas prices. The way they work now, again the working class, the middle class, pays more than their fair share than the very wealthy. And I believe that we as a country, believe in equality for all, and that means that we who benefit from our society need to contribute."
...two years ago Wulsin proposed "a ludicrous gas tax idea that would have seriously hurt middle-class families." Pfaff called Wulsin a "protégé of Speaker Nancy Pelosi who has thwarted every attempt to make America energy independent."
REP. PELOSI: You can have a transition with natural gas. That, that is cheap, abundant and clean compared to fossil fuels. So, so there is a way to transition this instead of doing more of the same.
...REP. PELOSI: I'm, I'm, I'm investing in something I believe in. I believe in natural gas as a clean, cheap alternative to fossil fuels.
Main Entry: fossil fuel
: a fuel (as coal, oil, or natural gas) formed in the earth from plant or animal remains
I am a very ardent supporter of Obama. I heard and read his remarks about not needing to drill for oil if we all “inflate our tires and tune-up or cars”.
I went to the GM dealer where I bough my 2005 Chevy Cobalt and was told that it can not be tuned-up!!! They said it was controlled by a computer, that would send a “OBD code” and light the “check engine light” if it had a problem or was out of spec. What is this, they said I need only oil changes? The spark plugs are good for 100,000 miles.
I now know that GM and Ford are in the pockets of the Republicans. Why would one of the smartest people in the world (Obama) say to tune-up my car, but the dealer says it is run by a computer and cannot tuned-up?? (My dad used to time and tune the fuel system on our 1966 Ford all the time)
I am the only Democrat that drives an American car; all my friends drive Toyotas and Hondas. Now I know why. I am going to the Toyota dealer on Monday to trade in my GM for a Toyota. The Republicans all drive Fords and GM’s. Look at George W Bush, he drives a Ford F250, his wife drives a Lincoln, and his daughters drive Fords.
GM and Ford are lying to make Obama look bad, why would they not tune-up my car? To make Obama look bad, that is why. Never again an American car for me.
Tuning-up my car to eliminate the need for foreign oil is funny? Being Green and saving the worlds eco-systems is funny? What's in you [sic] Kool Aid?
Obama said by inflating our tires and tuning-up our cars, we will not need to drill for oil. Republicans just do not get it. Go ahead and drive you [sic] Gas Guzzling American Car, I will have New Toyota Next Week! No more of the Republican indoctrination “Buy American for me”. I just made an appointment with the Toyota Dealer on Monday! GO OBAMA!!!
Who really cares if Barack Obama is a communist or socialist? Compared to the last 7 long years of having this idiotic moronic bloodthirsty murderous corrupt pathologically-lying sociopathic demonic fascist slimeball known as Dumbya in the White House, America would be well served to have a large amount of corrective action put in place by a communist or socialist. The simple fact is that President Cheney and his little dummy have easily been the worst leaders this country has ever had, and certainly ever will (arguable the worst in world history). I mean they even make Adolph Hitler look like a great guy. At least Hitler took care of his own people. You can’t even say that about Dictator Bush. I doubt you’ll ever find anyone more universally despised across the universe than George W. Bush. He has become so mentally deranged that today he even said we’re not in a recession...
Blood shortage? We cannot donate our way out of this problem.
Accident victims will just have to cut back on their use of blood. They have to break their addiction to blood.
People starving in Africa? We cannot feed our way out of this problem. They’ll just have to cut back on their use of food. They’ll have to break their addiction to food.
Baby crying at 3 a.m.? We cannot nurse our way out of this problem. He’ll just have to cut back on his use of milk. He’ll have to break his addiction to milk.
Asthmatics short of breath? We cannot breathe our way out of this problem. They’ll just have to cut back on their use of air. They’ll have to break their addiction to air.
If we lost all oil and gas products tomorrow, however, the world would simply collapse. There would be an immense depression beyond anything we saw in the 1930s -- the economy would go back to a primitive state. There would simply not be a functioning society. It would be as if there had been nuclear war, minus the casualties from blast and radiation.
In a word, we cannot as a modern society or even a modestly industrial society live without oil and gas. That is, we do not supply a luxury or a narcotic. We supply a basic necessity of life, as basic as almost any commodity there is.
The actual reported mileage of a QX56 is between 9 and 11 miles-per-gallon (city). If Saudi Arabia were to increase its production by 1 million barrels per day that translates to a reduction of 20 percent to 25 percent in the world price of crude oil, and crude oil prices could fall by more than $25 dollar per barrel from its current level of $126 per barrel...In turn, that would lower the price of gasoline between 13 percent and 17 percent, or by more than 62 cents off the expected summer regular-grade price...
[Schumer said that] drilling in the Arctic Wildlife Refuge would “take ten years and reduce the price of oil by a penny.” ...Schumer also called for an end to the speculation in energy markets that drives up prices.
Pelosi sent a letter asking the president "to draw down a small portion" of the SPR's more than 700 million barrels of oil..."Releasing oil from the Reserve is a tool to manage our national and economic security, and when judiciously used will in no way jeopardize national security," the California Democrat wrote.
Hey, I think they may be cooking up those magic solar energy beans so we won't have to drill for oil!Stung by Republican taunts about tire gauges, Democrats are pumping up a stunt of their own...The Democratic National Committee on Wednesday is launching an “Exxon-McCain ’08” campaign, complete with a gas-pump logo and garish red buttons, bumper stickers and yard signs.

KRAUTHAMMER: The gas tax holiday was hokey and cheap, and this is hokier and cheaper, because to take from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve is to jeopardize our national security. It really is for supply interruption, which would be a catastrophe for our country. To take stuff out is going to have negligible effect on price, it will have an effect for a day or two. The amount he wants to take out is about a week's worth of imports. It's absurd.
And if you wanted to remove from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, at least you should be in favor of drilling so that, domestically, in a few years, we will have essentially new strategic reserves in the Arctic or offshore, which would substitute for draining the reserves we currently have.
So his position is contradictory, cheap, and political.
And the stuff he said only a week ago in Missouri on Wednesday of last week, if we only inflated our tires it would substitute for all the oil that the Republicans want to drill for is a towering absurdity.
The amount we would save in our tires generously calculated is about 1/200 of what you get from offshore oil alone, and the amount of oil shale is in the West would give us 10,000 years worth of the gasoline saved by inflating our tires.
The problem with the Democratic position is they always say 'let's do x' instead of drilling. What the American people understand is you do x, y, and z, and everything.
But the reason not to drill is untenable. You drill as well, and that will help us as well...
...BAIER: So inflate your tires.
KRAUTHAMMER: It is not even a tenth of a hundredth of the solution.

Let's pause a moment here and reminisce about 8% unemployment, 15% inflation, and 17% auto loan rates.
